RCT Series current transformer

A current transformer (CT) is an essential piece of electrical equipment that controls, monitors, and protects the power supply. Extremely large volumes of detectable alternating current (AC) are produced in trace amounts. High-current power circuits in power production, transmission, distribution, and industrial applications are commonly equipped with safety relays or sensitive measurement devices.

    Product Overview

A CT employs electromagnetic induction and consists of two windings: a secondary winding with several turns linked to safety or measurement devices, and a primary winding with a few turns connected in series to a high-current circuit. In comparison to the primary winding, the secondary winding, which is usually tuned to 5A or 1A for most industrial applications, receives incredibly little current.

CTs require enough insulation to handle a high voltage between windings, linearity to minimize measurement mistakes, and high precision for energy metering. When using a CT, never leave the secondary winding open circuit. This is due to the fact that an open circuit can produce extremely high voltages that can damage electrical equipment. Finally, current transformers are crucial to the reliability, efficiency, and safety of modern electrical systems because they enable more precise current monitoring and problem identification.
