CTY2 Series current transformer
Product Overview
A CT employs electromagnetic induction and consists of two windings: a main winding with a few turns linked in series to a high-current circuit and a secondary winding with several turns connected to safety or measurement devices. The secondary winding, which is normally tuned to 5A or 1A for the bulk of industrial applications, receives very little current, whereas the main winding receives a lot. This proportionality, also known as the transformation ratio, protects people and equipment from unsafe voltages while allowing for accurate current monitoring.
CTs require high precision for energy metering, linearity to minimize measurement error, and enough insulation to sustain a high voltage between windings. When using a CT, the secondary winding should never be left open circuit. This is because an open circuit has the potential to produce extremely high voltages that might damage electrical equipment.Lastly, since they enable more precise current monitoring and problem diagnosis, current transformers are essential to the reliability, efficiency, and safety of modern electrical systems.
